Greece: 19 Convictions by ECHR in 2025

According to the annual report of the 'Justice Watch', the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) convicted Greece 19 times in 2025.
The report aims to clarify the points of friction regarding compliance with the ECHR and respect for fundamental rights in Greece.
According to the report, the violations mainly concern the right to a fair trial, violation of the presumption of innocence, and immigration/refugee rights.
At the end of 2025, there were 2,500 pending applications against Greece, corresponding to 4.7% of the total number of pending cases at the ECHR. Greece ranks 6th among countries with the most pending cases.
Violations of the ECHR mainly concern delays in the administration of justice, detention conditions in prisons and property rights.
The report emphasizes that Greece does not learn from its convictions and that immediate action is needed to change this situation.
