Greece: Authorities on Alert Due to Storm "Christine"

The state mechanism and local authorities in Greece are on alert in anticipation of storm "Christine", which is expected to bring heavy rains, thunderstorms, snowfall, and gale-force winds.
112 has already sounded in Achaia, Ilia, Messinia, Arcadia, Thessaly, Zakynthos, Kefalonia, and Crete, warning of severe weather phenomena. Authorities are urging citizens to limit their movements and follow self-protection instructions.
The Risk Assessment Committee convened urgently under the General Secretary of Civil Protection, Nikos Papaefstathiou, with the participation of the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Giannis Kefalogiannis. The National Coordination Center for Operations has informed Municipalities and Regions to be in full operational readiness.
A "red alert" has been issued for severe thunderstorms in Peloponnese, Thessaly, Central Macedonia, Pieria, Imathia, Halkidiki, and the North Aegean.
