Tensions Rise in Trial Over Contract 717: Adjourned to 2026

Tensions flared in the trial of auditors from the National Transparency Authority regarding contract «717», due to reactions from relatives of victims of the Tempi train tragedy. The trial was interrupted and adjourned to March 3, 2026.

Initially, the prosecutor proposed excluding the victims' relatives from supporting the prosecution, but the court rejected the proposal. Tensions rose when a relative of a victim reacted strongly to a statement by a defense attorney, resulting in their removal from the courtroom. Antonis Psaropoulos, a relative of a victim, also expressed strong protest.

The trial was adjourned to decide on the request to support the prosecution by the Hellenic Republic, which was accepted.
