Six regional units in Greece are on "Red Code" alert due to heavy rainfall and an increased risk of flooding. These regions are Serres, Drama, Kavala, Thasos, Xanthi, and Rodopi.

Ferry routes from Piraeus and Rafina have been canceled, as well as hydrofoil routes to the islands of the Argosaronic Gulf.

According to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY), heavy rains and thunderstorms are expected in Eastern Sterea, Southern and Eastern Peloponnese, Evia, Central and Eastern Sterea, Crete, the Cyclades, the Sporades, the islands of the Northern and Eastern Aegean, and the Dodecanese. The phenomena will be accompanied by hailstorms, mainly in the island parts of the Southern and Eastern Aegean, but also possibly in areas of the Northeastern Peloponnese and Southern Attica.

Meteorologist Giannis Kallianos draws attention to Attica, especially Ano Glyfada, Mount Hymettus, and the Southern Suburbs, due to debris and reduced soil absorption.

Heavy rains and thunderstorms are forecast for today, Monday (January 26, 2026), in many areas of the country. Gale force south winds will blow in the Aegean.
