Greece: Private doctors to perform surgeries in public hospitals

The Ministry of Health is promoting a mixed healthcare system, allowing private doctors to use the infrastructure of the National Health System (ΕΣΥ) for surgeries and outpatient clinics.
This reform aims to provide a variety of medical services, both free and for a fee, giving citizens the option to avoid waiting lists and doctors incentives to support the public health system.
Last year, the possibility for ΕΣΥ doctors to maintain a private practice or work in private health facilities was institutionalized, something that was previously prohibited.
