Famellos: "Government is looting farmers' subsidies"

SYRIZA-PS President, Sokratis Famellos, accused the government of creating a mechanism to loot agricultural subsidies, calling the case "the biggest scandal in the primary sector since the Metapolitefsi."

In a meeting with farmers in Epanomi, Thessaloniki, S. Famellos stated that instead of policies to reduce production costs and strengthen cooperative production, the government chose to create a party mechanism with false declarations of land and non-existent herds, mainly in Crete.

S. Famellos spoke of an "organized fraud network" with political cover and tolerance of deceptive practices during OPEKEPE inspections. He also denounced the attempt to transfer OPEKEPE's responsibilities to AADE as an attempt to cover up the scandal.

He reiterated SYRIZA-PS's proposals for the reconstruction of the agricultural economy, such as reducing production costs, strengthening cooperatives, and modernizing ELGA.

The meeting was also attended by the mayor of Thermaikos, Th. Tzekos, the MP for Thessaloniki A' of SYRIZA-PS, Katerina Notopoulou, the director of the Parliamentary Group, Giorgos Bakis, and local party officials.
