The Minister of Maritime Affairs, Vasilis Kikilias, stated that he will seek to accelerate procedures in the Coast Guard, comparing the efforts to the AEGIS program.

In his statements, Mr. Kikilias mentioned that all tenders of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and the Coast Guard will be announced in the coming months. He also referred to the need to guard maritime borders, especially in the Eastern Aegean and south of Crete, with new vessels and technologies.

Regarding migration flows, the minister noted the cooperation in the Eastern Aegean, but also the challenge presented by the Libyan Sea. He stressed that those who enter the country illegally will be taken to closed detention centers.

Referring to incidents involving disabled people on ships, Mr. Kikilias stressed that the ministry's intervention was immediate and that fines would be imposed on those who violate safety rules. He clarified that modern ships have the appropriate infrastructure for disabled people, while other solutions will be sought for smaller ships.
