European Chief Prosecutor Laura Codruța Kövesi has criticized Greece and other EU member states regarding the independence of the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) in an interview with the Romanian newspaper Libertatea.

Kövesi stated that some politicians have attempted to interfere with EPPO investigations, but their efforts have been unsuccessful. She referred to similar situations in Croatia, Greece, Slovakia, and other countries.

Additionally, Laura Codruța Kövesi pointed out that the €5.2 million in cash found on Greek customs officials is the largest amount seized to date by the EPPO. The investigation is being conducted in 14 European countries and China, involving over 400 companies.

Kövesi emphasized that VAT fraud has become a criminal industry, one of the most profitable criminal activities in Europe.
