Memorandum Signed to Combat Gender-Based Violence Against Refugees and Migrants

A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the Ministry of Migration and Asylum and the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family to prevent and combat gender-based and domestic violence against refugees and migrants.

The Memorandum was signed by the Deputy Minister of Migration and Asylum, Sevi Voloudaki, and the Deputy Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Elena Rapti.

Among other things, the Memorandum provides for:

  • The establishment of a National Working Group on gender-based violence.
  • The updating of referral protocols to support structures.
  • The interconnection of telephone lines 15107 and 15900.
  • The possible extension of the “Panic Button” application to third-country nationals.
  • The joint training of frontline staff.
  • The mapping of available services.
  • The development of information material.
  • The design and creation of Crisis Centers (rape crisis centers) for victims of sexual violence.

Elena Rapti stated that with this memorandum, they are joining forces to ensure that no victim of gender-based or domestic violence is left unaided, regardless of origin or legal status.
