New Market Supervision Authority with 300 Inspectors – Following AADE Model
Share on:

A new Market Supervision Authority is being established with 300 inspectors, modeled after the AADE, to combat unfair profiteering, adulteration, and fraud. The aim is to more effectively control the market and protect consumers.

Minister of Development Takis Theodorikakos aims to accelerate the procedures so that the Authority can operate from the new year. A relevant bill is expected to be submitted to Parliament in September.

At the same time, a new application for complaints from citizens via mobile phone will be launched, which will be a useful tool for the control mechanisms.

The new Authority, named "Independent Authority for Market Supervision and Consumer Protection", will result from the merger of DIMEA, the control mechanisms of the G.G. Commerce, and the Consumer Advocate. 500 organic positions are foreseen, of which 300 will be for inspectors.

Part of the positions will be filled by staff transfers, and there will also be new hires.
