New armaments program: 5 billion euros, 1.25 billion for Greek companies

A new armaments program of 5 billion euros has been approved, with Greek companies expected to receive 1.25 billion euros worth of work. The participation rate of Greek companies in the production of the new systems will be at least 25%, according to the Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias.
The armaments package includes the upgrade of 38 F-16 Block 50 aircraft to Viper, contracts for the modernization of the MEKO frigates of the Hellenic Navy, as well as contracts for the support of the systems. It also provides for the creation of infrastructure for the operational integration of F-35 aircraft at Andravida Air Base. The goal is to procure the first 2 F-35 fighter aircraft by December 2028.
The program also includes the creation of a five-level dome to protect against threats from missiles, aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, surface ships and underwater threats.
