Legislative Intervention for ATM Charges
Share on:

The government, through Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis, has announced legislative regulation to limit excessive charges on ATM withdrawals, especially after the sale of part of the ATM networks to other companies.

The issue was highlighted by citizens, journalists, and opposition parties, with the government responding belatedly. Criticism is being leveled at the government's practice of allowing such issues to arise, instead of preventing abusive charges from the outset.

It is noted that banks benefit from deposits, and the government's role is to protect consumers, especially the most vulnerable, such as the elderly and those making small withdrawals.

The government intervention is considered to have been expedited due to strong social discontent and scandals.
