Plevris: Threats Against Migrants in Detention Centers

The Minister of Migration and Asylum, Thanos Plevris, visited the detention center in Amygdaleza, threatening those who remain illegally in Greece with imprisonment or return.
Mr. Plevris defended the amendment regarding asylum, which suspends the possibility of applying for asylum for migrants from North Africa for three months. He also threatened ministry employees who object to the anti-immigration measures.
"With the new framework, for those who remain illegally in the country, the options will be two: prison or return," Mr. Plevris stated. He also mentioned that the possibility of legalization, no matter how many years they remain illegally in the country, is being abolished.
Regarding NGOs, Mr. Plevris requested their registry and announced an administrative audit of those who are turning against the ministry.
Finally, the minister referred to the European directive on voluntary return, which was reduced to 14 days, and the electronic monitoring of foreigners.
