Tsipras' New Party Rumors: Turmoil in SYRIZA
Share on:

SYRIZA is in turmoil due to rumors about Alexis Tsipras founding a new party. Executives of Koumoundourou suggest a meeting between Sokratis Famellos and the former prime minister to clarify his intentions.

Suggestions for Famellos - Tsipras Meeting

According to reports, some SYRIZA executives suggest that Sokratis Famellos meet with Alexis Tsipras and ask for explanations regarding the rumors of creating a new party. They believe that this situation undermines SYRIZA's recovery effort, given that Tsipras remains a Member of Parliament for the party.

Demands for Clarification

These executives are asking Tsipras to categorically deny the rumors or, otherwise, be excluded from the SYRIZA Parliamentary Group. They point out that the possible establishment of a party by Tsipras harms Famellos and weakens SYRIZA.

Possible consequences

Analysts estimate that the establishment of a party by Tsipras could lead to five parties in the 10% range in the next elections. However, if Tsipras fails to win a significant percentage from PASOK and Plefsi Eleftherias, PASOK could retain second place.

Change of electoral law

At the same time, there is fear of a possible change in the electoral law by Kyriakos Mitsotakis, with the aim of ensuring government stability, giving a bonus to the first party depending on its difference from the second.
