Serres, Greece: African Swine Fever Outbreak – Emergency Measures Implemented

An alert has been issued in the region of Serres following the detection of a case of African swine fever in pigs. Emergency measures have been implemented to prevent further spread.
The case was identified on a farm in the Kormista area of the Municipality of Amphipolis. The unit is small and isolated, with fifty animals.
The relevant authorities have initiated the process of culling and sanitary burial of the animals. The following measures have also been decided:
- Prohibition of the exit of live pigs from the P.E. of Serres.
- Prohibition of the sale of live pigs in the P.E. of Serres.
- Prohibition of the exit from the P.E. of Serres of pork meat, sperm, eggs and embryos of pigs, as well as animal feed.
- Prohibition of the movement of pigs and access to the protection and surveillance zones (protocol number 471759 (18374)/26-6-2025).
- The movement of pig farms outside protection zones is permitted for immediate slaughter within the P.E. of Serres, under conditions.
- For farms in Prohibited Zone III (AZII) according to Circular 1219/177525/19-6-2024, the existing measures remain in effect.
