Almost 23% of newly appointed teachers in Greece took leave immediately after their appointment, as revealed by the Deputy Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, Kostas Vlasis. The leaves are mainly for reasons of child rearing, pregnancy or threatened pregnancy.

In one case, in one region, half of the 12 appointed kindergarten teachers took leave. Mr. Vlasis stated that the Ministry is proceeding with the recruitment of substitutes to cover the gaps.

The Deputy Minister also referred to the strengthening of vocational education and training, stressing that philologists and theologians have more difficulty finding work compared to specialties such as welders. He noted that there are professions that offer salaries of over 3,000 euros per month.

Finally, Mr. Vlasis announced that by the end of the year there will be a legislative regulation for Study Centers.
