SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance accuses the Mitsotakis government of a "record inflation" in Greece, citing Eurostat data. According to SYRIZA, inflation in Greece rose to 3.7% in July, almost double the Eurozone average, which remained at 2%.

SYRIZA claims that the increase in inflation leads to wealth redistribution and compression of the income of the social majority, while cartel profits increase. It also states that government surpluses put pressure on employees, pensioners and freelancers.

SYRIZA has proposed measures to tackle inflation, which, it says, will not be adopted by ND.

According to Eurostat, food, alcohol and tobacco are expected to have the highest annual rate in July (3.3%), followed by services (3.1%).

Greece has been above the European average in inflation since October, highlighting problems in the Greek economy. Food, energy and housing issues fuel inflation. The rise in tourism also contributes to maintaining inflation at a higher level.

In Germany, consumer prices rose by 1.8% in July, while in Spain inflation rose to 2.7%.
