Today, February 28th, marks three years since the train tragedy in Tempi, where 57 people lost their lives. The anniversary brings back the national mourning and the demand for justice.

On February 28, 2023, two trains collided head-on near the settlement of Evangelismos, outside Larissa. The passenger train Hellenic Train Intercity 62, carrying more than 350 passengers, mainly students, collided with a freight train.

The collision resulted in the death of 57 people and the injury of dozens more. The images from the scene of the tragedy were shocking, with the first carriages completely destroyed.

The Tempi tragedy has left an indelible mark on Greek and Cypriot society. Among the victims were two Cypriots, Kyprianos Papaioannou and Anastasia Adamidou.

Three years later, the memory of the tragedy remains alive, reminding us of the need for safety and justice.
