Espionage Case: Chinese Spy's Travels to Athens

An investigation is underway into an espionage case within the armed forces, focusing on a 54-year-old Air Force officer accused of leaking military secrets to China. The officer is detained and awaiting his statement.
According to authorities, the officer allegedly had contact with a Chinese liaison in Beijing in 2024 during a private trip. A year later, the Chinese liaison traveled to Athens to meet with the officer and discuss the progress of the mission. During the meeting, he allegedly provided the officer with an encrypted mobile phone for communication and transmission of classified information.
Authorities are also investigating the possibility of an intermediary, as well as the potential involvement of other individuals, including retired officers. Payments allegedly received by the officer in cryptocurrencies are also under investigation.
Reportedly, the Chinese agent met with the officer in Athens in 2025, and authorities are investigating whether classified documents were handed over during the meeting. The officer's relationship with a "shadow man" and two retired officers who maintain communication channels with China is also under investigation.
The officer is accused of collecting and transmitting secret military information, endangering national interests.
