Anthony Hopkins: 'I Had No Idea I Was an Alcoholic'

Anthony Hopkins reveals he didn't realize he was an alcoholic until a doctor gave him a significant warning. In his new book, titled 'We Did OK, Kid,' the Oscar-winning actor refers to the moment he realized he had a problem with alcohol.
At the age of 37, his doctor expressed concerns about the amount of alcohol Hopkins was consuming, explaining that his tests showed the physical condition of a 50 or 65-year-old man. The doctor warned him about potential problems with his liver, pancreas, and lungs.
Hopkins states that his memories from that period are hazy and that he had no idea he was an alcoholic. The turning point in his life came when he was driving drunk in Beverly Hills. After that incident, he decided to quit drinking on December 29, 1975.
