Despina Miraraki spoke about her experience when she was arrested in Iran years ago because part of her hair was visible from her headscarf. She said she spent a few hours in a cell.

The businesswoman and presenter, speaking on the show "Live News", stated that she was taken to the police station and faced imprisonment of up to one year. Eventually, she was released after interventions.

Despina Miraraki stated: "I sat in the cell until evening, and if I wasn't Miraraki, the businesswoman who made imports with a very large turnover from Iran, I would have stayed there."

She also described the reactions she encountered in her business contacts in Iran when she was active in the carpet trade. As she said: "The Persian merchant could not imagine that there was a woman in front of him who was a carpet merchant. They didn't pay attention to me, they despised me."

Despina Miraraki stressed that this experience made her better understand the position of women in Iran, saying: "The position of women does not exist. They are an object, a thing."
