Yiannis Smaragdis: "They were opening champagne after my wife's death"

Director Yiannis Smaragdis, speaking at the Star Forum 2026, referred to the loss of his wife, Eleni Smaragdi, in 2022, and the completion of the film "Kapodistrias."

As he stated, despite the difficulties and his personal grief, he managed to complete the film. He characteristically mentioned: "The people who do not love themselves and others, or rather who do not know how to love others and themselves, and do not love the works I do, were opening champagne after Eleni's death."

The director emphasized that the completion of the film was a transcendence, despite the adversities.
