Matthew McConaughey: Why He Rejected $14.7 Million and Changed His Career

Matthew McConaughey revealed that he rejected an offer of $14.7 million to change the direction of his career. In an interview on The Diary of a CEO podcast, the actor mentioned that in the early 2000s, despite his success in romantic comedies, he felt trapped.
He decided to take a 20-month break, during which he rejected an initial offer of $8.2 million that eventually rose to $14.7 million. This refusal sent a message to Hollywood that he was no longer available for roles that did not satisfy him.
After this decision, McConaughey starred in films such as Killer Joe, Mud, Dallas Buyers Club, and True Detective. In 2014, he won the Academy Award for Best Actor for Dallas Buyers Club.
