Matthew McConaughey: Why He Lost the 'Titanic' Role

Matthew McConaughey almost starred in James Cameron's 'Titanic,' but his refusal to change his Texan accent reportedly cost him the role. Ultimately, the role was given to Leonardo DiCaprio.
According to the book 'The Bigger Picture' by producer John Landau, McConaughey participated in a screen test with Kate Winslet. Landau stated that Cameron asked McConaughey to try the scene without the Texan accent, but he refused.
McConaughey had mentioned the incident in 2021, saying that he did a reading with Kate Winslet and believed he would get the role. He also clarified that he was never officially offered the role.
Although McConaughey's career skyrocketed, he confessed that he felt bitterness for not participating in the film.
