Monty Python: The Story Behind the Funding of 'Life of Brian'

'Monty Python's Life of Brian', one of the most popular comedies of all time, almost didn't get made. EMI withdrew funding shortly before filming began, leaving the production in a bind.
George Harrison, former member of The Beatles and a fan of Monty Python, saved the day. Eric Idle, a member of Monty Python, contacted Harrison, who agreed to finance the film through his company, HandMade Films. Harrison mortgaged his mansion and offices to secure the necessary funds.
Filming began on September 16, 1978, and the film became a major box office success, grossing over $20 million. HandMade Films went on to produce and distribute successful films such as 'Time Bandits' and 'Withnail and I'.
The film was banned in Norway, but this contributed to its promotion in other countries, such as Sweden.
