Actor Sean Penn chose not to attend the Oscars ceremony in order to travel to Ukraine and meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy posted a photo of their meeting at the presidential office, thanking the actor for his support of Ukraine since the beginning of the war.

Sean Penn arrived in Kyiv by train, keeping his trip a secret until the last moment. His absence was noted at the Dolby Theatre, where he was announced as the winner.
