Director Jon Favreau initially expressed his objections to Iron Man's death in Avengers: Endgame, as he revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

Favreau, who directed the first Iron Man in 2008 and supported the casting of Robert Downey Jr. in the role of Tony Stark, called the Russo brothers, expressing concern that the character's death would not be well-received by the audience.

Despite his initial reservations, Favreau admitted that the final execution of the scene was excellent. "The Russos handled it very well. Gwyneth and Robert did a fantastic job. The result was wonderful. Yes, I was wrong. Big mistake," he stated.

He also mentioned the importance of choosing Robert Downey Jr. for the role of Iron Man, saying that from the first moment he saw him, he realized that something very big would come of it.
