The artistic world is in mourning following the news of the death of actress and screenwriter Sofia Seirli, who drowned while swimming in Fournoi, Ikaria. The 77-year-old actress was on vacation on the island.

According to reports, Sofia Seirli attempted to swim in deep water but was unable to return to shore. Actor and director Nikos Chatzopoulos confirmed the news with a post on Facebook.

Sofia Seirli was born in Alexandria in 1947 and graduated from the National Theatre Drama School. She had a long and successful career in theater, collaborating with many troupes and directors. She became known to television audiences for her participation in popular series such as "Agries Melisses" (Wild Bees) and "Mavro Rodo" (Black Rose).

In one of her last interviews, she mentioned her two-year relationship with French actor Michel Piccoli.
