Sakis Rouvas, before becoming a famous singer, excelled in sports, specifically in pole vaulting. Until the age of 18, he had a personal best of 4.40m, which was a record for the Ionian Islands for many years.

He started his athletic career with gymnastics and then took up pole vaulting, coached by Pavlos Skordilis. At the age of 16, he took fourth place in the Panhellenic Children's Championship and participated in the National Children's team in a Greece-Cyprus meet.

Rouvas remains a fan of the sport. He recently attended the Fly Athens Indoor event and told ERT that he envies the athletes. After the competition, he was photographed with his former coach, Pavlos Skordilis.
