There is an alarming rise in underage alcohol consumption in Greece, with students reporting that they are buying alcohol without identity checks. MEGA presented images from a Gymnasium dance where minors were consuming alcohol.

Students aged 14 and 15 reported that in many cases they are not asked for identification when buying alcohol, while at school dances they are even able to buy a bottle. "They give it to us normally and they don't ask us if we have an ID or anything," said a minor.

Testimonies indicate that minors use fake IDs or siblings' IDs to bypass checks. In Thessaloniki, four people were arrested for selling alcohol to minors.

Authorities are concerned about the increase in cases of alcohol poisoning in minors ending up in hospitals.
