Xenidakis Retires: "No Future in Athletics, No Support"

Haris Xenidakis has announced his retirement from athletics, immediately after winning the gold medal in the 800 meters for men for the third consecutive year. In statements to public television, the national champion expressed his disappointment at the lack of financial support and prospects in athletics.
"I have prioritized my job. This is my last race. There is no future in athletics and no financial support. Maybe it's my last race and I sat down to enjoy it," Xenidakis said.
Despite being urged to reconsider, Xenidakis remained firm in his decision, wishing the best to the other athletes.
