World Aquatics: Christou in 100m Backstroke Final

Apostolos Christou qualified for the 100m backstroke final at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore with a time of 52.44. Vangelis Makrygiannis failed to qualify for the final, finishing with a time of 53.36, placing him 14th overall.
Christou finished second in his semi-final heat behind Russian Kliment Kolesnikov (52.26). Hubert Kos from Hungary was the fastest qualifier with 52.21. Pieter Coetze from South Africa set a new African record with 52.29.
The final is expected to be highly competitive, as the eighth-place qualifying time was 52.57, faster than the Olympic final in 2024 (52.95).
