Cyprus: 13 Flu Deaths, Including a 54-Year-Old

Thirteen deaths have been recorded in Cyprus from laboratory-confirmed influenza since the beginning of the epidemic period, according to the Ministry of Health. A 54-year-old died yesterday in a private hospital.
The Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Elisavet Konstantinou, stated that the last six deaths occurred in recent days, with five recorded over the weekend.
Most deaths involve elderly people over 80 years of age with underlying diseases. However, the death of the 54-year-old is an exception.
Dr. Konstantinou said that the epidemic appears to have peaked and a slight recession is observed. Despite the pressure on the health system, the situation remains manageable.
More than 145,000 flu vaccines have been administered, while the response to COVID-19 vaccines is low. Dr. Konstantinou stressed that influenza vaccination is still important, as the effectiveness of this year's vaccine exceeds 55%.
No stricter measures are expected in hospitals and nursing homes, but instructions have been given and daily monitoring is carried out. Citizens are urged to observe individual protection measures.
