Avocado and Mango: Allies for Heart Health

A new study suggests that consuming avocados and mangoes may improve blood vessel function in adults with prediabetes. The research, published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, showed that daily consumption of these fruits may have positive effects on cardiovascular health.

In the study, adults with prediabetes were divided into two groups. One group consumed a medium-sized avocado and a cup of chopped mango daily, while the other group followed a similar diet without these fruits. After eight weeks, the group consuming avocados and mangoes showed a 6.7% improvement in flow-mediated dilation, an indicator of blood vessel function.

The researchers note that increased fruit consumption, particularly avocados and mangoes, may improve vessel function, which is important for the cardiovascular health of high-risk individuals. Potential mechanisms include antioxidant activity, increased nitric oxide content, and higher fiber intake.
