Second Wave of Flu in Cyprus: Highly Contagious Strain K

A second wave of influenza is expected in Cyprus, according to the scientific community, while the current wave remains strong. European scientists estimate that the flu may continue into March.
Infectious disease specialist Maria Koliou reported that the flu is still on the rise, both in hospitals and in the community. The predominant strain in Cyprus is the K subtype of influenza A, which is characterized by particularly high transmissibility.
"Certainly, the flu continues to be on the rise, and it seems that the seasonal wave of influenza has not decreased significantly yet. It is this strain K, a subtype of Influenza A, that prevails in Cyprus and is highly contagious," Ms. Koliou emphasized.
The simultaneous circulation of other viruses, such as RSV and rhinovirus, further exacerbates the situation, creating pressure on hospitals. Ms. Koliou stressed that vaccination is still recommended for those who have not yet been vaccinated.
