Fame and Fentanyl: New Documentary on the Deadly Epidemic

A new documentary titled Fame and Fentanyl, presented by Ice-T, aims to shed light on the devastating fentanyl epidemic in the US. The documentary, premiering on August 25 on the A&E television network, examines the deaths of celebrities such as Prince, Angus Cloud, and Tom Petty, linking them to the thousands of losses of everyday people.
Ice-T emphasizes the severity of the situation, stating that "Everyone knows someone who has fallen victim to fentanyl." The documentary includes testimonies from parents who lost their children to fentanyl overdose.
Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid, is 50 times more potent than heroin and is responsible for 70% of overdose deaths in the US in 2024. According to David Saucedo, fentanyl is addictive and can cause tissue necrosis.
The documentary also refers to the death of Prince, which was linked to a fentanyl overdose. It is noted that the ease with which opioids were prescribed in the past has contributed to the increase in addictions.
