ITF Releases New Guide for Hemoglobinopathy Nursing Care

The Thalassemia International Federation (TIF) has released the second, updated edition of the "Specialized Guide for Nurses of Patients with Hemoglobinopathies." This tool aims to strengthen the role of nurses in the care of individuals with Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Disease (SCD).
Nurses play a crucial role in long-term care, providing psychological and social support, crisis management, coordination among health professionals, and education for patients and healthcare personnel.
The new edition of the guide incorporates a decade of experience and analyzes the clinical complexity of hemoglobinopathies, emphasizing continuous training and adherence to high standards. It also presents examples of nursing contributions to psychosocial support and pain management.
Dr. Androulla Eleftheriou, Executive Director of TIF, emphasizes that the publication aims to recognize the role of nurses in managing complex diseases. TIF calls on nursing professionals and academic institutions to utilize the guide and contribute to the upgrading of educational initiatives.
