A Swedish study published in Acta Paediatrica examined 312,221 births between 2010 and 2022 in women over 34, drawing conclusions about the risks of pregnancy after 45.

The research, led by Sofia Voss from the University of Uppsala, found that women over 45 face an increased risk of stillbirth (0.83% vs. 0.42% in the 35-39 age group), premature birth (8.4% vs. 4.8% in the 35-39 age group), low birth weight, and low blood sugar in newborns.

Premature birth rates increase with maternal age: 4.8% (35-39 years), 6.1% (40-44 years), and 8.4% (45+ years).

The study highlights the need for targeted information and monitoring of women planning pregnancy at an older age.
