Hundreds of New Prostate Cancer Diagnoses Annually in Cyprus

Prostate cancer remains the most common cancer among men in Europe and Cyprus, with hundreds of new cases recorded each year.
At a press conference co-organized by the Oncology Center of the Bank of Cyprus and Europa Uomo Cyprus, the need for systematic information and enhanced prevention was emphasized, ahead of the European Prostate Cancer Awareness Day (September 15).
Research showed that while 61% of citizens are aware of the PSA test, only 43% know the risk factors, and only 24.3% have undergone a digital rectal exam.
The President of Europa Uomo Cyprus, Andreas Moiseos, noted that Cyprus exceeds the European average in PSA checks, while the General Director of the Oncology Center, Panos Ergatoudis, stressed the importance of continuous vigilance.
Dr. Dimitrios Vombas, Director of Radiotherapy Oncology, emphasized that prevention saves lives, urging men not to neglect the annual PSA test. Representatives from the Ministry of Health, OPAP Cyprus, and the German Medical Institute participated in the event.
