Hospital emergency rooms are experiencing increased traffic due to a surge in seasonal infections. Patients are waiting for hours to be examined, as personal physicians are off work for the holidays.

According to statements by the Pathologist of the Nicosia General Hospital Emergency Department, Mr. Savvas Savva, to OMEGA, there is increased traffic due to seasonal infections, with several cases of influenza A, to a lesser extent coronavirus, and gastroenteritis.

The Press Representative of OKYPY, Mr. Charalambos Charilaou, stated that from December 24 to 26, the ambulance service received 422 emergency calls island-wide, 172 of which concerned the Nicosia province.

Mr. Charilaou added that rapid patient triage clinics have been put into operation to deal with non-emergency cases, in order to decongest the Emergency Departments.

Citizens are urged to be patient and cooperate with hospital staff. Mr. Savvas Savva called on people to be patient, as increased traffic often exceeds the department's capabilities.

Finally, citizens are advised to avoid gatherings to limit the transmission of infections, and the importance of good hygiene and attention to diet for the prevention of gastroenteritis is emphasized.
