Ghana: First Death from Mpox Outbreak

The first death related to mpox has been recorded in Ghana, according to health authorities. The country is facing an increase in new infections.
Last week, 23 new cases were confirmed, bringing the total to 257 since the virus was first detected in June 2022.
Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh assured that "the situation is under control" and emphasized the importance of early detection and responsible behavior.
Authorities are preparing to receive vaccines from the World Health Organization (WHO) this week. The WHO has maintained the alert level for the epidemic, calling for international support.
Since the beginning of 2024, over 37,000 mpox cases have been recorded in 25 countries, with 125 deaths. The DR Congo accounts for the largest percentage of cases and deaths.
