Italy: Optimism After Liver Transplant for 15-Year-Old

There are positive initial signs regarding the health of 15-year-old Dimitris, who underwent a liver transplant in Turin, Italy. Dimitris is being treated in an Intensive Care Unit, where doctors are closely monitoring his body's response to the graft.
The graft was found within 48 hours, and the surgery was successful. Intensivist Andreas Iliadis told ERT that there is continuous communication with the doctors in Italy and that they are pleased with the progress.
The 15-year-old's father expressed mixed feelings of joy and anxiety, thanking the doctors, the Niarchos Foundation, the state, and the Greek society for their support.
Dimitris suffered from a rare condition that prevents him from sweating, leading to acute liver failure due to heatstroke during a hike.
Following actions by EOM and ESY, Dimitris was initially transferred to hospitals in Greece and then to Turin by an EKAV aircraft.
