Summer Hazards for Cats: Heatstroke, Parasites, and Stings

Summer poses health risks for cats, mainly due to high temperatures and parasites. Although cats are generally resilient to the Greek climate, they require care.
Heatstroke can occur if trapped without shade and water. Symptoms: fatigue, shortness of breath, open-mouthed breathing. Immediate transfer to a cool place and water administration are required; in severe cases, veterinary care is needed.
Parasitic infestations from fleas and ticks increase in the summer. Deworming every 2–3 months is essential, as is removing sources near the house. Ampoules, pills, and collars are available.
Bee stings are also a risk. If an allergic reaction occurs, the cat should be taken to the veterinarian immediately.
With prevention, we ensure a safe summer for our cat.
