Following the legalization of cannabis, concerns are growing about the impact on public health. The use of cannabis has a history of thousands of years, with the first references dating back 12,000 years in the Altai Mountains.

The medical use of cannabis appeared in Egypt, China and Greece. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main psychoactive substance of the plant, was identified in Israel in the 1960s.

Cannabis varieties circulating today come from 4,000-year-old crops. Empress Sisi used cannabis for health problems. Gradually, cannabis was displaced by analgesics and sedatives.
