Heatstroke vs Sunstroke: Symptoms, Prevention Tips

With high temperatures expected, Dr. Avraam Ilia, Director of the Pediatric Department at Makario Hospital, draws attention to the dangers of heatstroke and sunstroke, especially for children.
Sunstroke is caused by prolonged exposure to solar radiation, mainly on the head and neck. Symptoms include headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, hot skin, and irritability.
Heatstroke is more serious, as the body cannot regulate its temperature, which rises above 40 degrees Celsius. Symptoms include high fever, hot and dry skin, rapid breathing, rapid heartbeat, anxiety, seizures, and fainting. Immediate medical attention is required.
For prevention, avoid sun exposure, especially between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM, wear a hat and light clothing, and consume plenty of fluids. In case of sunstroke, move to a shady place and apply cold compresses. In case of heatstroke, go to the hospital immediately.
