Using a mobile phone in the toilet is linked to an increased risk of developing hemorrhoids, according to new research. This habit prolongs the time spent in the toilet, increasing pressure on the veins of the anus and rectum.

A study by Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston showed that people who use a mobile phone in the toilet have a 46% increased risk of hemorrhoids. The study involved 125 people who underwent colonoscopy.

The researchers found that 93% of participants used a mobile phone in the toilet at least once a week, while 66% did so regularly. The most frequent activities were reading news (50%), using social media (44%), and sending messages or emails (30%).

Experts recommend limiting the time spent in the toilet to 5-10 minutes. They also advise consuming fiber, staying hydrated, and regular physical exercise.

Symptoms of hemorrhoids include fresh blood in the stool, itching, a feeling of incomplete emptying, and pain in the anal area.
