Cyprus: Increase in Flu Deaths – Second Wave of Illnesses Approaching

Twelve deaths from influenza have been recorded in Cyprus, with five occurring in the last 48 hours. This increase has put pressure on the healthcare system.
According to the Deputy Director-General of the Ministry of Health, Ms. Elisavet Konstantinou, an increase in cases has been observed, mainly at Nicosia General Hospital. The Ministry of Health held a meeting to strengthen the contribution of the private sector to public hospitals.
Emphasis is placed on managing cases in the Accident and Emergency Departments (A&E). Cyprus appears to be at the peak of the flu wave, with a second epidemic wave expected towards the end of next month.
Experts advise citizens to observe personal protection measures and get vaccinated against influenza and COVID-19, limiting travel in case of illness.
