Mass Resignations at CDC Amidst Political Interference Claims

At least four top officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have resigned, citing political interference. The resignations coincided with the announcement by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. regarding restrictions on access to the COVID-19 vaccine, and the removal of CDC Director Susan Monares.
Those who resigned include Dimitri Daskalakis, Daniel Jernigan, Debra Houry, and Jen Leyden. Daskalakis cited the "ongoing weaponization of public health," while Houry denounced "political interference" and warned of the impact of misinformation.
Jernigan expressed his belief in the mission of public health but stated that in the "current context" he felt it best to resign. Monares, according to her lawyer, refused to endorse unscientific guidelines.
The resignations follow an armed attack on the CDC headquarters in Atlanta. Earlier, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had revoked emergency use authorizations for COVID-19 vaccines.
