The President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, stated that Cyprus is determined to actively contribute to shaping the European health agenda. The statement was made at an event of the Cyprus Cardiology Society, within the framework of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU, held at the Presidential Palace.

President Christodoulides noted that cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of death and disability in the EU, accounting for more than one-third of deaths. In Cyprus, one in four deaths is linked to these diseases.

The government, he said, prioritizes prevention and early intervention, aligning the National Strategic Plan for the Prevention and Management of Cardiovascular Diseases with the priorities of the EU and the World Health Organization.

The President emphasized the need for new tools, stronger partnerships, and closer cooperation at the European level to address the challenges posed by aging societies and chronic diseases.

Cyprus, despite its small size, is determined to contribute to the pilot implementation of innovation, the exchange of experiences, and the shaping of realistic policies. As the Presidency of the Council of the EU, Cyprus is promoting discussions on equal access to innovation, strengthening medical product supply chains, and cross-border cooperation.
