Adult Pacifiers: New Trend in China – Health Warnings

An unusual trend is emerging in China, where adults are using pacifiers to cope with stress and improve their sleep.
According to the South China Morning Post, the demand for adult pacifiers is increasing, with online stores recording over 2,000 sales per month, at prices ranging from 1 to 60 euros.
Sellers claim they help with smoking cessation and proper breathing, while buyers report a sense of security.
Dentist Tang Caomin warns of risks, including damage to the mouth and jaw, restricted jaw movement, chewing pain, and altered tooth position, especially with use exceeding three hours per day. There is also a risk of inhaling parts of the pacifier during sleep.
Psychologist Zhang Mo notes that pacifier use may indicate unmet emotional needs, emphasizing the need to address challenges with meaningful solutions.
